Freshman Band is primarily composed of 9th-grade students and focuses on advancing the skills acquired in middle school. Students work on developing a mature tone and technique through a variety of repertoire. Students who were not previously in middle school band or did not take band in grades 6 through 8 are also placed in this ensemble.
Our non-audition Symphony Band is open to 10th-12th graders. As our largest concert ensemble, it has a tradition of earning Excellent and Superior ratings at MSBOA festivals. Students perform a mix of classical and contemporary works.
Wind Symphony is our premier auditioned ensemble, performing challenging high school and collegiate-level repertoire. Known for its musicality and precision, the Wind Symphony has performed at the Michigan Music Conference and regularly collaborates with guest artists.
An extracurricular ensemble that meets after school, Jazz Band offers students the chance to explore jazz, blues, and swing. Members perform at school concerts and community events, and the band is known for its annual showcase at the North Gratiot Bingo Hall.
The Marching Lancers, a competitive MCBA Flight II and BOA Class AA band, have been State Finalists 26 times. They rehearse in May through October, with a week-long summer band camp, and compete in prestigious regional competitions. The Marching Lancers are known for their dynamic performances and visually engaging shows.
The Winter Guard program includes three teams: Varsity, JV, and Inspire Me. Our Varsity Winter Guard has won multiple state championships and consistently ranks as a state finalist. These teams combine dance, flag, and rifle work to create stunning visual performances.
All band students participate in small ensembles, preparing for Solo & Ensemble competitions. This program emphasizes individual skill development and gives students the chance to perform in a more intimate setting.
